Wednesday, 15 January
We will depart from Elite Coach, 1685 West Main Street, Ephrata, PA at 3:00 PM… charter bus to Newark airport… We will stay at the Newark airport Hampton Inn, close to the airport, less than one mile from the airport.

Thursday, 16 January
Hotel shuttle/taxis to airport…United Airlines non-stop flight #1080 departs Newark at 6:56 AM and arrives in San Jose, Costa Rica at 11:20 AM. … 2 hour drive… lunch at local restaurant… We will stay three nights at Hotel Silencio del Campo (www.hotelsilenciodelcampo.com)...this property was the favorite hotel on our two trips to Costa Rica in 2016… the rooms are in bungalows and the property has beautifully landscaped hot springs on site… it has a great pool bar… you will love it here. 7:00 DINNER RESERVATIONS AT LA CHOZA DE LAUREL FORTUNA/

Friday, 17 January
VISIT ARENAL OBSERVATION LODGE FOR HIKES… LUNCH IN SMALL RESTAURANTS IN EL CASTILLO RECOMMENDED BY LP…The Arenal Theme Park www.skyadventures.travel) offers phenomenal volcano views from an aerial Sky Tram and 1.7 miles of zip lines stretching across treetops… TIME IN RESORT FOR HOT SPRINGS

Saturday, 18 January
We will have opportunity to walk on hanging suspension bridges in the rain forest. Arenal Hanging Bridges (www.hangingbridges.com) has a two mile self-guided trail with 15 sturdy bridges, some up to 100 meters long, suspended across ravines and tree tops….LUNCH IN TOWN… Ecocentro Danaus (www.ecocentrodanaus.com) has trails through a netted butterfly garden and a garden featuring frogs, snakes, caimans, turtles and water fowl…Arenal Mundo Aventura (www.arenalmundoaventura.com) is a rainforest reserve offering many activities.

Sunday, 19 January
We have a 3 hour drive today on rustic roads…We will then drive along Laguna de Arenal, the largest lake in the country. The scenery reminds me of the English Lake District. We will stop for lunch at the Café y Macadamia de Costa Rica and have a fantastic outdoor view of the lake. Then we will stay three nights at the 3-star Cala Lodge (www.calalodge.com) located in Monteverde, home to the Monteverde Cloud Forest and the Santa Elena Cloud Forest… Cloud Forests are rain forests with trails, birds, and other wildlife.

Monday, 20 January and Tuesday, 21 January
Days in the rainforest will include visits to:
Selvatura (www.selvatura.com) offers a full day’s worth of things to see and do. A highlight is a canopy exploration along treetop walkways with two miles of suspended bridges. LUNCH AT SELVATURA.
Skywalk (www.skywalk.co.cr) with 5 suspension bridges and 3,300 feet of canopy pathways…almost 1 mile of ziplines…there is a sky tram cable car for people who want a calmer experience.
Santa Elena Cloud Forest (www.reservasantaelena.org) has 4 trails ranging from .9 to 3 miles…Wildlife exhibits of insects, bats, frogs, serpents, butterflies, hummingbirds, and gardens filled with orchids.

Wednesday, 22 January and Thursday, 23 January
We will drive along the Central Pacific coast to Manuel Antonio National Park…this park epitomizes everything visitors flock to Costa Rica to see; stunning beaches, a magnificent setting with islands offshore, lush rainforest laced with a network of trails, and wildlife galore…Howler monkeys move from branch to branch, iguanas shimmy up trunks, and toucans and scarlet macaws flap by…the park has four lovely beaches. There are tide pools and good snorkeling. We will stay three nights at The Falls Resort at Manuel Antonio (www.fallsresort.cr). This property is set in an amazingly beautiful and tranquil garden and waterfall setting within walking distance of this famous little town´s best restaurants and gorgeous beaches. White faced capuchins, sloths, toucans, and the monkeys frequent the trees overhead, while blue butterflies and hummingbirds bustle about the garden.

Friday, 24 January
A short drive up the coast to Playas Esterillos…we will stay one night at the 3 star Hotel Playa Bejuco (www.hotelplayabejuco) located on the beach… we will have a day to relax at the beach and visit other villages along the coast.

Saturday, 25 January
Leisurely drive along the coast to the town of Alajuela…visits will include beach towns of Playa Hermosa and Jaco, possible visits to Crocodile Safari and Carara National Park where monkey, sloth, and macaw sightings are virtually guaranteed … Alajuela is in the coffee growing region of Costa Rica…we will stay two nights at the 3 star Hotel La Rosa de America (www.Larosadeamerica.com)

Sunday, 26 January
This day will feature a day tour of coffee country and some interesting towns close to San Jose… visits to towns of Grecia and Sarchi, famous for its crafts…overnight at Hotel La Rosa de America.

Monday, 27 January
Short bus ride to San Jose airport… United Airlines non-stop flight #1081 departs San Jose at 12:15 PM and arrives at Newark at 6:24 PM… return to Ephrata.
